The typical two hours cost the same everywhere: €690 in all six. The hour is where they differ, from €405 in Chania and on Corfu to €490 on Naxos. Santorini, which many visitors expect to be the priciest island, has a typical hour of €440, below the national €460.
Naxos is the one place that does not start at €370: its cheapest hour is €405, and its two-hour packages start at €690 rather than €520. Corfu has the opposite quirk. Its typical hour is among the cheapest, yet across all lengths its typical package is €945, the highest of the six, because nearly half of what is listed there is half-day and full-day coverage: Corfu is a wedding island. Naxos (€760) and Athens (€750) come next; Santorini, Mykonos and Chania sit at the national €690.
The market is small, and it is better to say so. Fourteen photographers list packages in Greece, and many of them cover more than one place, which is why the last column adds up to more than 14. What moves the price
The occasion. Couples, families, friends and proposals book by the hour. Weddings and elopements are priced as half or full days: typically €1,012 for about 190 photos, or €2,932 for about 550. A proposal usually needs an hour or 90 minutes: the photographer waits out of sight until the question, and the rest of the session becomes a couples shoot.
The destination, less than you might think. Between the six places the typical hour moves only from €405 to €490, and the typical two hours do not move at all. Booking two hours instead of one changes the bill far more than choosing one island over another.
Season and sunrise. A package costs the same in April as in August, and at six in the morning as at eight in the evening; what the season changes is availability. From June to September the sunset slots go first, and on cruise days Fira and Oia, Mykonos Town and Corfu's Old Town fill up from mid-morning. Sunrise is the easiest slot to book, and the lanes are still empty. It also beats the Athens heat and, usually, the meltemi, the dry north wind of the Aegean summer, which blows hardest in July and August.
Leaving town. A package is for one place, and distance comes out of the session. Cape Sounion is more than an hour's drive from Athens, Elafonissi about 75 km of winding road from Chania, Paleokastritsa on the far side of Corfu from the Old Town: each turns an hour into two hours or a half day. Ferries, boat trips and entry tickets to archaeological sites are extra unless a package says otherwise.
Group size. Prices are per session, not per person. Up to eight people the price does not move; from nine up, most packages and Quick Booking cost 50% more.
