Where the shoot happens
- Oia. The blue domes and whitewashed lanes are at their best at sunrise: soft, even light and almost nobody around. Sunset at the castle is the most crowded hour on the island. Many famous rooftops are private hotel terraces, so stay on the public paths.
- Imerovigli and Skaros Rock. Imerovigli sits high on the rim, and a stepped path leads out to the rock where a medieval castle once stood. Late afternoon brings warm side light and far fewer people than Oia at sunset. No shade, and the steps are steep.
- The caldera path from Fira. The rim walk north through Firostefani towards Imerovigli opens a new view at every bend; in the hour before sunset the cliffs turn gold.
- Pyrgos. An inland hilltop village with quiet lanes around its old castle — the calm alternative when the caldera villages are full.
- Kamari and Perissa. Black volcanic sand on the east coast, facing the sunrise: in a morning session the sun comes straight off the sea.
Plan for wind. The rim is exposed, and the summer meltemi, strongest in July and August, often builds during the day: veils and long dresses fly. Mornings are usually calmer.
