Oia — the blue domes and the windmill
The three blue domes over the caldera are the most famous frame in Greece — empty for about an hour after sunrise, impossible by mid-morning.
Best time: Sunrise until about 8:30am; sunset only if you accept the crowd
The domes viewpoint is on the public path — do not climb onto rooftops for a higher angle. Marble lanes are slippery: no smooth soles.
Imerovigli caldera path and Skaros Rock
The caldera walk at the island's highest point — Oia's drama with a tenth of Oia's people, ending at a castle rock jutting into the void.
Best time: Late afternoon through sunset; the caldera faces due west
Heels and the Skaros path do not mix — decide before setting out whether the shoot goes onto the rock or keeps it as backdrop.

The stump of a Venetian fortress at the western tip of Oia, standing above the whole caldera — the most photographed sunset in Greece, and still worth it if you plan around the crowd.
Best time: Sunrise for an empty castle; the last half hour before sunset if you accept the crowd
The castle fills ninety minutes before sundown — the cleaner frames are from the marble path just east of it. Polished marble underfoot: flat shoes.
Amoudi Bay and the red cliffs below Oia
Three hundred steps below the village: a fishing quay under vertical red rock, with painted boats at the water and the cliff glowing at the end of the day.
Best time: The last two hours of afternoon, when the west-facing cliff turns orange
Take the road down by car and keep the steps for the descent only — the donkey path is shared, and they always have right of way. Sturdy flat shoes on the quay: the rock is uneven and wet at the edge.
Akrotiri lighthouse on the southern cliff
An 1892 lighthouse alone on the island's empty southern tip, where the sun drops straight into open sea and nobody is standing in the way.
Best time: The hour before sunset and the blue hour after, when the lamp comes on
The lighthouse yard is Navy property and locked — everything is shot from outside the fence. Unfenced, crumbling cliff edge: keep well back, and bring a layer for the wind.
