Wedding Photographer in Pelion

Pelion weddings are slate roofs and plane trees: a stone-flagged square, an arched bridge in the woods and a cove at the end of the road.

About Pelion

Pelion is the mountain the centaurs were supposed to live on, and it still feels half-hidden: cobbled mule paths, chestnut and beech woods, and villages of stone houses under grey slate roofs with wooden balconies over the drop. Makrinitsa hangs above the Gulf of Volos — one long balcony of a village, its main square looking straight down at the city and the water, which is why it is called the balcony of Pelion. On the Aegean side the mountain falls fast to the sea: Tsagarada is four hamlets around a plane tree so old that the square was laid out to fit it; Damouchari is a pebble cove with a ruined tower and the clearest water on the coast; Milopotamos is a beach cut in two by a rock you can walk through. Old arched packhorse bridges and stone kalderimia link them, and the light changes completely from the hazy, west-facing gulf side to the sharp blue of the east.

Top Photo Spots in Pelion

The most photogenic locations for your Pelion photoshoot

Makrinitsa's balcony over the Gulf of Volos

A village built on one ledge of the mountain, its main square hanging directly over Volos and the water — the reason they call it the balcony of Pelion.

Best time: Late afternoon, when the gulf softens and the stone warms; winter and spring give the clearest air

No cars in the village — park at the top and walk down, which means walking back up at the end. Polished stone, lots of steps. Weekday mornings are far quieter than weekends.

The plane tree square at Tsagarada

One of the oldest plane trees in Greece filling an entire village square, with the church of Agia Paraskevi behind it and the Aegean below.

Best time: Morning, while the square is empty and the canopy still holds even light

The square is small and mostly café tables — mornings work far better than evenings. Under the canopy everything picks up a green cast, so wear a strong colour rather than white or pastel.

Damouchari cove

A tiny pebble harbour under a ruined tower, with clear green water, a slipway of worn stone and no road running through it.

Best time: Morning — the cove faces east and the mountain takes the sun away by late afternoon

Park at the top and walk down; the last stretch of road is steep and narrow. The pebbles are hard underfoot, and there is little shade — bring water and something for your feet.

Milopotamos beach and its rock arch

Two small bays divided by a wall of rock with a hole worn through it — you walk from one beach to the other under the arch.

Best time: Early morning, when low sun comes through the arch and the beach is still empty

Access is a long staircase from the road, not a drive-up beach. Whether you can walk through the arch depends on the swell — check on the day rather than counting on it.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a photoshoot in Pelion cost?

Photoshoots in Pelion start from €279, with one- and two-hour packages up to around €450 depending on duration and the number of edited images. Because the villages are strung along a mountain, the longer package is the practical one: it leaves time to move between a village square, a balcony view over the gulf and a cove without rushing the drive.

What are the best photo spots in Pelion?

Makrinitsa's main square, which looks straight down over Volos and the gulf; the plane tree square at Tsagarada, where the tree is old enough that the square was laid out around it; Damouchari, a pebble cove with a ruined tower and very clear water; and Milopotamos, the beach cut in two by a rock arch. The old stone packhorse bridges between villages photograph well too.

What is the best time of year for photos in Pelion?

Late spring and early autumn. May and June are green and clear; September and early October keep the sea warm with softer light and far fewer people. The Aegean side is sharp and blue in the morning, while the gulf side above Makrinitsa is hazy at midday and glows in the late afternoon. Winter brings snow on the summit and closed beach tavernas.

How much driving does a Pelion session involve?

More than the distances suggest. Makrinitsa to Tsagarada is roughly an hour and a half of tight, twisting mountain road, and the last stretch down to Damouchari or Milopotamos is steep and narrow. Plan one side of the mountain per session rather than both. Some beaches charge for parking or access in high season — check locally before you set out.

How far in advance should we book a wedding photographer in Greece?

For peak-season dates — May through October, and especially Saturdays on Santorini or Mykonos — book 6-12 months ahead. The best-reviewed photographers are often the first vendors to sell out after the venue itself. Shoulder-season and weekday weddings are far more flexible; three to four months is usually comfortable. If your date is closer than that, don't assume it's hopeless: availability shifts, and Photo Greece can check the whole vetted roster for your date at once instead of you emailing photographers one by one. When comparing, look at full wedding galleries rather than portfolio highlights — how a photographer handles a dim taverna dinner tells you more than their best ten frames.

How many hours of coverage do we need?

Work backwards from the moments you can't lose. An intimate ceremony with dinner fits in 4-5 hours: preparations, vows, couple portraits at golden hour, first toasts. A classic full wedding day — getting ready through the first dances — runs 8-10 hours. Greek weddings tend to run long and warm up late; if your party will peak at midnight with plate-worthy dancing, budget coverage for it or arrange a set finishing time you're at peace with. One Greece-specific tip: schedule couple portraits around sunset, not the ceremony's end — in summer that golden window is what your photographer will plan the whole timeline around. Discuss your running order with your photographer and they'll recommend honest hours, not maximum hours.
