About Spetses

Spetses runs on two harbours. Dapia, the arrival quay, is a pebble-mosaic waterfront of cannons, captains' houses and the Poseidonion Grand Hotel — a belle-époque pile from 1914 that still sets the tone of the whole seafront. Twenty minutes east on foot, the Old Harbour at Baltiza is the working one: wooden hulls up on stocks in open-air boatyards, masts against tiled roofs and a lighthouse and chapel at the entrance, and it stays busy long after the day boats have gone. Private cars are heavily restricted, so the lanes belong to horse carriages, bicycles and scooters, which is why the town photographs without traffic in the frame. Agioi Anargyroi, on the south-west coast, is the island's big pine-backed beach, reached by water taxi or the coast road. Spetses is about two hours from Piraeus by hydrofoil and ten minutes by launch from Kosta on the Peloponnese, which makes it an easy add-on to an Athens trip.

Top Photo Spots in Spetses

The most photogenic locations for your Spetses photoshoot

The Old Harbour boatyards at Baltiza

Wooden hulls up on stocks in open-air yards, masts against tiled roofs, and a narrow inlet that keeps working long after the day boats leave.

Best time: Afternoon on the yard side, then the quay opposite as the lights come on

Working boatyards: stay clear of the stocks and hauling gear, and ask before entering a yard. About twenty minutes on foot from Dapia; a carriage makes the trip part of the shoot.

The Dapia waterfront

The arrival quay: cannons still pointing out to sea, pebble-mosaic paving, captains' houses and horse carriages waiting at the rank.

Best time: Early morning, before the first hydrofoil unloads

Public quay with no railing along much of the front — mind the edge with children. Agree the fare and route with a carriage driver before shooting. Clear the quay when a boat is docking.

Agioi Anargyroi beach

The island's big south-west bay: a long curve of sand and pebble under a wall of pines, with clear water and a chapel on the point.

Best time: Late afternoon into sunset, when the bay keeps light and the sunbeds empty

Around four kilometres from town: water taxi from Dapia or the coast road. Sunbeds fill the middle of the bay in high season — work the ends. Check the last taxi boat before a sunset slot.

The Poseidonion Grand Hotel

A belle-époque hotel of 1914 facing the sea, with a long arcaded facade, palms and gardens — the grandest building on any Saronic island.

Best time: Late afternoon, when the west-facing front turns warm

Working hotel — the terrace, garden and interior need permission from reception, arranged in advance. The pavement and seafront in front are public. Busiest corner of town in July and August.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a photoshoot in Spetses cost?

Professional photoshoots on Spetses start from €279. Packages vary by duration and the number of edited photos — one to two hours, roughly €279 to €450, is enough to walk from the Dapia waterfront past the Poseidonion and along to the Old Harbour. Agioi Anargyroi is on the far side of the island, so add the water-taxi or road time to the booking.

What are the best photo spots in Spetses?

The Old Harbour at Baltiza, with wooden hulls on stocks in the open boatyards and masts against tiled roofs; the belle-époque facade and gardens of the Poseidonion; the pebble-mosaic quay and cannons at Dapia; the back lanes where the horse carriages wait; and Agioi Anargyroi, the pine-backed beach on the south-west coast.

What is the best time of day for photos in Spetses?

The Old Harbour works late: it faces roughly north, holds soft light all afternoon and glows once the tavernas switch on. Dapia and the Poseidonion take clean morning sun before the first hydrofoil unloads. Weekends from June to September bring an Athens crowd; May, early June and September are the quiet months with warm sea and no queue for a carriage.

How do we get between locations on Spetses without a car?

You mostly walk. Private cars are heavily restricted on the island, so the town runs on foot, bicycle, scooter and horse carriage, and Dapia to the Old Harbour is about twenty minutes along the sea. A carriage between the two makes a shoot of its own — agree the fare first. For Agioi Anargyroi take a water taxi from Dapia or the small bus, and check the last return time before you book a sunset slot.

I'm shy in front of the camera — will I look awkward?

This is the single most common worry, and it disappears about ten minutes in. Our photographers work with movement-based direction rather than stiff posing: walk towards me along this lane, look back over your shoulder, fix your hair, laugh at how ridiculous that instruction sounds. Motion photographs as confidence. Nobody is asked to smoulder at the lens unprompted. Locations help too — early-morning slots mean fewer bystanders, and quiet corners of Plaka or Ano Poli feel private. Read the reviews on any Photo Greece photographer profile and you'll notice how often 'I was so nervous' ends with 'best photos of my life'.

How many photos will I receive?

A standard 60-minute session delivers 40-60+ professionally edited photos; longer sessions deliver proportionally more. Every image in your gallery is individually edited — color, light, skin tones — not a raw dump with three good frames hidden inside. Expect real variety from a single hour: wide shots that show off the location, walking shots, close portraits, and detail moments you didn't notice being taken. Delivery lands in a private online gallery, typically within days, ready to download in full resolution and share. Each photographer's exact photo count and turnaround time is listed on their Photo Greece profile, so you know before you book.
