Agios Ioannis sto Kastri, the chapel alone on its pillar of rock above the sea, the stepped lanes and slate roofs of Skopelos Chora with the church of Panagia tou Pyrgou on the sea wall, the harbour front and the ruined kastro at the top of the town, and the pine-backed coves at Panormos and Milia. On Skiathos: the Bourtzi headland in the middle of the old port, Koukounaries with its pine forest behind the sand, and Lalaria's rock arch and white pebbles, which is boat-only.

Morning at Agios Ioannis sto Kastri — the chapel faces roughly east, the platform at the top holds only a handful of people, and the tour boats and rental cars arrive from late morning onwards. The Chora is workable all day because the lanes are narrow enough to hold shade, and it takes the last light beautifully from the kastro at the top. The season is shorter than in the south: June to September is the reliable window, with ferries and flights thinning out sharply from mid-October.

Yes — Agios Ioannis sto Kastri is open to visitors and couples are photographed there regularly, but plan for what the place actually is. About a hundred steps are cut into the rock face, and the platform at the top takes a small group and no more, so it is a spot for two people or a handful, not a wedding party. It is an active church, so dress modestly, ceremonies there need the parish's permission arranged in advance, and a wedding on the rock may be booked already. Mornings are quieter; the tour boats and coaches come later in the day.
