This happens all the time, and our family photographers are prepared for it. The secret is that the best family photos don't come from asking kids to pose — they come from play. Your photographer will turn the session into a game: racing along the beach at Naxos, feeding pigeons in Athens, hunting for cats in Chania's old harbour lanes. Tantrums and shy phases get waited out with a break and a snack, and sessions are scheduled around naps and meals. Even a session that feels chaotic in the moment produces wonderful genuine images — often better than the ones where everyone behaved.

There's no wrong age — each stage photographs differently and beautifully. Babies bring quiet, tender close-ups; toddlers bring motion and hilarious candid moments; school-age kids love the adventure of exploring castles and beaches on camera; teens relax once they realise nobody is forcing stiff poses. Multi-generation shoots with grandparents are among the most treasured bookings we see, especially on family reunion trips to the islands. The one practical tip: with children under five, book morning sessions when energy and light are both at their best. Aim for a coordinated palette rather than identical outfits: two or three soft colors that everyone wears in their own way. Creams, soft blues, sage and sand tones look wonderful against Greece's white walls, turquoise sea and stone villages. Skip big logos, characters and neon shades. Dress kids in clothes they can move and play in — the session will involve running, climbing steps and sitting on beaches. Bring a change of clothes for little ones (Greek beaches are irresistible) and comfortable shoes for cobbled lanes. Your photographer will send simple styling tips for your specific location and season when you book.

Photoshoots in Delphi start from €310. That covers a short session for a couple or a small family; one- and two-hour packages run to roughly €450 and differ by duration and the number of edited photos. A longer booking usually earns its money here, because the sanctuary and the stone village of Arachova are ten minutes apart and most people want both.

The terrace of the Temple of Apollo, with its six standing columns and the olive valley dropping away to Itea; the theatre just above it, which puts the whole sanctuary in the frame; and the Tholos at Athena Pronaia, the round building with three re-erected columns and a fraction of the crowd. Add the stone lanes and mountain terraces of Arachova for the second half.

The first hour after the site opens, or the last hour before it closes. The sanctuary faces south-west, so morning light rakes across the terraces and late light warms the limestone before the mountain shadow arrives. April, May, June, September and October are the good months; July and August are hot and busy by mid-morning, and winter can put snow on Parnassus.
