Dawn at Lake Voulismeni, when the water is glass and the tavernas have not set their tables out — it is a small lake, so a still surface doubles the whole town. The Mirabello coast is a late-afternoon job: the light comes across the bay onto Elounda and Plaka, and Spinalonga turns amber from the shore just before sunset. The season runs long here — May to mid-October is comfortable, and the eastern end of Crete stays warm into November.

Spinalonga is a ticketed archaeological site with posted opening hours that change with the season, and the last boats leave well before sunset — so a session on the island itself has to be a daytime one, booked around the ferry from Plaka or Elounda (about ten to twenty minutes each way). Most couples shoot the island from the Plaka shore instead, where the fortress sits across the channel in the golden hour and no ticket or timetable applies. Ask your photographer to check the day's hours and the boat times before the shoot is fixed.
