Little Venice
A row of Venetian-era houses with wooden balconies hanging over the sea — Mykonos's most painted hundred metres, best just before sunset.
About Little Venice
Get directionsLittle Venice is a line of 18th-century captains' houses built flush against the water, their painted wooden balconies overhanging the waves. From the shoreline by the Paraportiani side, the whole row stacks up in reds and blues with the sea breaking underneath — the one Mykonos frame everyone recognises.
The hour before sunset is the point: the houses face west, the low sun saturates the painted wood, and the waves catch the light. It is also when every visitor on the island converges here for cocktails, so the working method is to shoot the row from the water's edge and the rocks slightly before the bars fill, then turn around — the crowd stays out of frame when the sea is the background.
Spray is real: south wind sends waves over the shoreline path, which is either a problem or the best picture of the day. Pair it with the windmills five minutes away and the town's lanes for a full session.
Best time to shoot
The hour before sunset, before the bars reach capacity
Tips
Check the wind — a south blow means spray on the shoreline path. Shoot the row from the Paraportiani end for the cleanest stack of facades.

The first thing that drew us to Konstantinos was his portfolio online — one of the most impressive we'd seen (and we saw a lot, both online and meeting photographers in person). When we went to meet him, it clicked and we booked him…

Photography has always been something very important in our lives. Without it, we wouldn't be able to recall the details of our treasured memories. That's why when we had to choose a photographer for our baby girl's christening, we knew we…

Other spots in Mykonos
Kato Mili windmills
Five whitewashed windmills on the ridge above the harbour — the island's silhouette, side-lit at golden hour and open ground all day.
Panagia Paraportiani in the morning light
Five chapels fused into one white sculpture at the edge of the Kastro quarter — a shape with no two identical angles, and it needs low sun to read.
Armenistis lighthouse above the northern cliffs
An 1891 stone lighthouse on the island's north cape, looking across the strait to Tinos — wild, high, and shaped by the Meltemi all summer.
Agios Ioannis beach with Delos on the horizon
A small west-facing cove with the sacred island of Delos lying straight across the channel — the cleanest sunset frame on Mykonos, at sea level and out of the wind.
