Agios Nikitas village

Agios Nikitas is a single street. It runs downhill between old stone and whitewashed houses, tavernas with tables against the walls and bougainvillea overhead, and it ends at a small bay with fishing boats pulled up on the shingle. Cars stop at the top of the village, which is what keeps the lane photogenic.

The street is a shaded corridor for most of the day, so it works when the beaches are glaring, and it opens onto the sea at the bottom for the wider frames. Over the headland to the north lies Milos beach — a fifteen-minute walk on a path from the top of the village, or a five-minute water taxi from the bay — which gives a second, quieter location with clear water and no road at all.

Evening is when the village looks best: lamps on, tables filling, the lane in warm light. It is also when it is busiest, so a session either starts before the tavernas fill or works the top half of the street, which stays quiet. The lane is steep and cobbled in places, and the walk over to Milos beach is a proper path — flat shoes for both.
