Kato Mili windmills

The windmills stand in a row on the small ridge between Little Venice and the harbour, round and thatched and impossibly graphic against the sky. Because they sit on open ground, the compositions are generous: the full row from below with the couple on the slope, a single mill filling the frame, or the mills as silhouette with the sunset behind and the couple against the glow.

Golden hour works from both sides. Before sunset the low sun models the white cylinders and lights faces cleanly; just after sunset the sky behind the row goes orange to violet and everything in front reads as silhouette — bring both plans and shoot the sequence.

It is a public, unfenced spot a minute from Little Venice, so the two are one session, not two. The wind that once turned the mills still blows most days; treat it as a prop — dresses and loose hair move beautifully here, and anything not pinned down leaves.
