The coast path to Kamini and Vlychos

A stone path along the water to two small harbours, ending at an old arched bridge — twenty and thirty-five minutes on foot, and the island's golden-hour route.

Cómo llegar

The seaward path west of the port is Hydra's main artery for anyone not on a mule. It hugs the rock a few metres above the water, passes small chapels and private jetties, and reaches Kamini — a working fishing harbour with a handful of tavernas — in about twenty minutes. Another fifteen brings you to Vlychos, where a humpbacked stone bridge crosses a dry streambed above the pebble beach.

As a session route it is close to ideal: it moves in one direction, it faces west so the light improves the whole way, and every few hundred metres offers a different frame — path and sea, boats at Kamini, the bridge and the beach at Vlychos. It also empties out. Most day visitors do not go past Kamini, so the last stretch is usually just the couple, the path and the water.

Practical notes: it is stone, uneven in places, and there is no shade — which matters more in July than the distance does. Water taxis run back to the port from both harbours, so the walk does not have to be done twice.

Consejos

No shade on the path and uneven stone underfoot — flat shoes and water in summer. A water taxi from Kamini or Vlychos saves the walk back.
