Bochali hill over Zakynthos town

The balcony above the capital — harbour arc, tiled roofs and the Peloponnese across the channel, from a small square beside the old Venetian castle.

Bochali is the hill village directly above Zakynthos town, and its small church square and café terraces work as the town's balcony: the harbour curls below, ferries slide in and out, and on clear days the mountains of the Peloponnese line the horizon across the channel. The pine-shaded walls of the Venetian castle sit just behind the square, their gate a short walk up.

Dusk is the hour this place was made for. The town lights come up in the blue, the harbour water holds the last sky, and the café terraces give the couple something real to do between frames. Morning is the sharp-light alternative — the view faces roughly east over the town, so early sun comes in across the water and the haze is at its thinnest.

Logistics are the only friction: the lanes up are narrow, parking near the square is scarce on summer evenings, and the terraces themselves belong to the cafés — buy the drinks, use the tables, and the frame comes with hospitality included. For a fuller session, pair the viewpoint with the castle's pines and walls above, which stay cool and quiet even in August.

Tipps

Come up by taxi on summer evenings — parking by the square is scarce. The best terrace frames belong to the cafés: order, then shoot.
