Naousa old harbour

Naousa's old harbour is small enough to walk around in five minutes and dense enough to shoot for two hours: red and blue caïques moored gunwale to gunwale, octopus drying on lines outside the ouzeries, and at the harbour mouth the stub of a fifteenth-century Venetian kastro, half-sunk, reached by a stone spit that just clears the water. Walking that spit — sea on both sides, ankles occasionally splashed — is the signature frame.

The hour before sunset is the point. The light comes low across the bay, the boats glow, and the harbour's famous bar-and-taverna arc is lit but not yet loud. Blue hour is better still: lamps on, water holding the colour, crowd become atmosphere. In August evenings Naousa is one of the busiest places in the Cyclades — the working answer is to shoot the spit and the kastro first, when a wave-splashed walk still filters the crowd, then use the busy quay as backdrop rather than obstacle.

Dawn flips the place entirely: empty quays, fishermen sorting nets, glassy water for reflections. If the couple will wake for it, morning here plus the town's inner lanes makes a session with no crowd management at all.
