Myrtos Beach overlook

Myrtos is the beach on every Kefalonia cover: a long white crescent of fine pebble pinned between two limestone headlands, with water that shades from pale turquoise at the shore to deep violet-blue in a few metres. The famous frame is from above — the road from Divarata switchbacks down the cliff, and its bends hold laybys with the full sweep of the bay below.

Colour is the scheduler. The blues run hottest with high sun, from late morning through mid-afternoon; as the light lowers, the bay — which faces west-northwest — takes the sunset straight on, trading colour saturation for sky. The complete version of the session is both: the overlook in the afternoon, then the drive down for water-level frames as the sun drops behind the sea.

The laybys are working road shoulder on a narrow mountain road — park fully off the tarmac, keep the couple inside the barrier line, and never walk the bends for a better angle; there is always another layby instead. Down at the beach, the pebbles swallow heels and the shore-break can be abrupt: barefoot or flat sandals, and any dress hem is getting wet in the last frames — plan for it rather than against it.
